Description

FRU Standard Steady Rests. Are for all standard applications. Available in a range of diameters from 4mm to 1100mm. These Steadies work on both flat bed as well as slant bed CNC lathes. Mounting brackets are available according to the customers. Built for high-performance machining environments. Our rest systems provide vital support for long, slender, or thin-walled components. Keeping them rigidly in place during rotation. From general turning to automotive crankshaft grinding. Kitagawa rests are designed to handle the most demanding applications with reliability and repeatability.

What are steady rests used for?

Steady rests are used in turning, grinding, and milling applications. Where long or flexible workpieces require additional support during machining. Without adequate support, these components can deflect under cutting forces. Leading to vibration, poor surface finish, dimensional inaccuracies, and premature tool wear. Kitagawa rests are widely used in turning operations involving shafts, pipes, and tubing, as well as in crankshaft and camshaft grinding. Where stability is critical. They also support aerospace manufacturing. Where long components must be machined precisely, and automotive engine production.Where surface quality is essential. In oil and gas applications, they provide reliable support for pipes, rods, and casings during demanding machining processes. Whether operating on a CNC lathe or a grinding machine, Kitagawa  FRU Standard Steady Rests deliver consistent, vibration-free support to help maintain part quality and overall machining performance.

How do steady rests work?

Steady rests function by positioning adjustable rollers or fingers around a rotating workpiece. These support points apply radial force to hold the part steady, preventing lateral movement as cutting or grinding forces are applied. Kitagawa’s hydraulic and pneumatic rests automatically centre and clamp the workpiece with consistent pressure, making them ideal for automated and high-speed environments. Manual models are also available for low-volume or flexible setups.
